ODM Smasher Building In Machine – 974-032

S/N: U193

The ODM Smasher is a hydraulic building-in machine used in hardcover bookbinding. After a book block has been cased-in (attached to its hard cover), the Smasher applies pressure and heat to compress the book and form the spine joints. This process creates a tight, professional hardcover book with a defined “French groove” along the spine.

The operator places a newly cased-in hardcover book between the machine platens and uses a foot pedal to lower the top joint iron, positioning it precisely at the spine joint. Once aligned, the operator presses the two safety buttons to activate the hydraulic press, which raises the bottom platen and securely clamps the book. Heated joint irons then apply pressure to the spine and hinge area, helping reactivate the adhesive and form the joint. The book remains under pressure for a preset dwell time before the machine releases it, completing the building-in process.

Features:

  • Hydraulic Building-In System – Applies up to 10 tons of pressure to compress books.
  • Heated Joint Irons – Help shape the spine and reactivate adhesives in the hinge area.
  • Adjustable Dwell Timer – Controls how long the book stays under pressure.
  • Dual-Button Safety Operation – Ensures safe machine activation.
  • Self-Adjusting Design – Minimal setup required for different book sizes.
